Cascade Community Foundation
November 21, 2002
Cascade Township Conference Room
7:30 a.m.
All members were present.
Chairperson Robinson called the meeting to order. He called on Jack
Lewis and Susan Roeder for a progress report on the logo and printed
items.
Jack and Susan presented a print of the new logo and showed the
stationary, envelopes, and calling cards done on a light cream paper
stock. Susan questioned where the money would come from to pay the
printer.
Michael Julien responded the attorney opinion stated the use of
Township funds is prohibited. The Foundation has some options open in
obtaining start-up funds. The Grand Rapids Foundation can be asked for
a loan or request that some of the Cascade Foundation money be
returned. The Tassell Foundation might be approached for some seed
money. The Township could be asked for a loan or someone else could be
found willing to donate some start-up funds.
Michael related his first choice would be going to the Grand Rapids
Foundation.
Sandi Parrish estimated that a 2% return on the first mailing of
about 5,600 letters would be approximately 114 responses. From 114
responses of $100 each, the Foundation would generate $11,400. On a 1%
response it would only be $5,000.
The Foundation will need approximately $7,000 to cover start-up
printing and mailing.
Eventually the Foundation will have an administrative fee. The
Board needs to identify cost and needs for next year.
Jay Cravens related the Township could loan the money with the
expectation of being paid back.
Michael Julien supported by Sandi Parrish moved to authorize the
Foundation to spend $5,000 on printing. The motion carried.
Susan Roeder supported by Pat Vredevoogd moved to approve mailing
expenses of the first letter. The motion carried. A final copy of the
letter will be sent to Board members.
Jack Lewis reported the letter would be ready for mailing on
November 27, 2002. The Foundation members will meet Monday, December
2, at 7:30 a.m. in the Township conference room to prepare the
envelopes for mailing.
