Cascade Township Library Advisory Board Meeting
Monday, May 12, 2003

The meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m.

Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the April 14, 2003 meeting were approved with one addition from Diane.

Chairman's Report: Chuck reported that the LAB will present its library expansion proposal to the Cascade Township Board on Wednesday, September 24, 2003. The LAB is seeking approval for the construction of a 2500-3000 square-foot program room at the library. Chuck noted that Township Supervisor Mike Julien would like to see many people at the meeting in support of the proposal.

Chuck also encouraged the LAB to arrange meetings with the public to raise awareness of the need. He has invited his neighbors in Maracaibo Shores to his home on May 20th from 7-8:30 p.m. to talk about the proposed addition to the library.

Special Gifts Committee Report: Chuck noted that the Finance Committee in charge of seeking a major donor for the proposed library addition met on 04/30/03. The committee is still trying to contact a potential donor.

Progress on Plan of Finance: Chuck said he is planning to meet again with Township Manager Jay Cravens, who is looking into bonding for the expansion, and Architect Phil Davis, who is looking into more specific construction costs. Ed is also invited to attend the meeting.

Friends Report: Lynne said the Friends are busy with preparations for the 4th of July Book Sale. The Friends also intend to survey members this summer in support of the library expansion project by phone or mail or possibly both.

Branch Manager Report: Diane will report to the Township Board on growth. On May 27, she will meet with new KDL representative, Mike Maier, a Grand Rapids Township resident.

Diane noted that KDL's new Web page went live 05/12/03. Pamela passed out a printed display of the enhanced Web page, which included full views of book covers.

Diane reported that May is "restoration month in preparation of the Summer Reading Club."

Meeting Nights: It was noted that Marianne Warnock is having difficulty attending meetings on the second Monday of the month. In response, the LAB set the following varied meeting schedule: June 2, July 14, August 4, and September 8. All meetings begin at 7 p.m. The LAB will look at setting a permanent schedule later.

LAB Bylaws: Diane will review a final draft of the bylaws with the Township for presentation at the next meeting of the LAB.

Seeing there was no other business, the meeting adjourned at approximately 8:25 p.m.
