Cascade Library Refresh

Did you know the KDL – Cascade Township Branch and the Township have partnered to provide library and recreational services at the current location for more than 25 years?

Recognizing the need for updates to better serve the community’s evolving needs, a 2018 needs inventory identified several areas for improvement:

  • Outdated and inadequate lighting
  • Damage to external doors
  • Worn carpeting, paint, and wall coverings
  • Roof damage
  • Outdated furnishings

Additionally, the community shared suggestions through KDL's idea board, which included expanding indoor and outdoor spaces, adding more seating, and maintaining the cozy atmosphere while increasing natural light.

Based on this feedback, Progressive AE developed an initial concept plan that includes:

  • Upgrading the lighting system and doors
  • Relocating the children’s area to the fish tank side
  • Removing walls for more space for activities
  • Modifying shelving for better light and access
  • Slight expansions to the staff workroom and book sale area
  • Upgrading bathrooms for improved accessibility
In August 2024, a presentation of updated concepts was given to the Township Board by the architectural firm C2AE.

Funding for this project has been set aside from the expired millage. However, the millage renewal currently on the November 2024 ballot is critical to ensure we have the necessary operational funds to move forward with these improvements and maintain building upkeep.
