Cascade Township Narrows Search for New Fire Chief
Top Five Candidates Selected, Hiring Timeline Scheduled
Cascade Township, Michigan, Sept. 25, 2017 – Cascade Township has narrowed its search and set the timeline for the anticipated hiring of its new fire chief, who will oversee all activities and functions related to the fire department.
The Township has received more than 30 applications during its national search. After reviewing application materials, the Township has selected and invited five candidates for in-person interviews, which will consist of a series of assessments and conversations over a multi-day period. The public and media will be invited to meet the finalists on Oct. 14, 2017.
“Cascade Township’s Fire Department does tremendous work in our community each and every day,” said Rob Beahan, Township supervisor. “We are optimistic, based on the knowledge and work experience of our candidates, that the result of our search will be securing an excellent chief who will lead our organization to the next level and serve our community exceptionally well.”
The process – which will begin on Oct. 2 – will require candidates to complete a physical assessment as well as a managerial skills assessment focused on several categories, monitored by three fire chiefs from around Michigan. On Oct. 14, candidates will participate in an interview hosted by the Township, which will be open to the public, and will be followed by a public meet and greet at 6:30 p.m. at the Wisner Center. An offer is expected to be made in the following week.
The new fire chief will be responsible for leading the more than 30-member department, which provides services to the more than 18,000 residents of the Township. The selected candidate will ensure Township policies, ordinances and laws are being followed, and will also be responsible for the department’s operating budget, recruitment and hiring, and mutual aid relationships with other municipalities and townships.
The department has been seeking a fire chief since April 2017. During this time, Lt. Ron Rowland was promoted to interim chief and assumed responsibilities for day-to-day operation of the Township.
