Cascade Hosting Event to Gather Public Insight for Master Plan, Township Vision

Cascade Township, Michigan, Sept. 26, 2018 – All Cascade Charter Township residents and business owners are invited to provide input on the future of Cascade at its Community Design Day as part of the process of updating its master plan.

The Community Design Day will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Cascade Christian Church, 2819 Thornapple River Dr. SE. The day will offer several drop-in, workshop sessions that allow community members to offer insight and ideas for making Cascade a better place to live, work and play. The sessions will include:

8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. – Morning Coffee Talk: Cascade Village
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – Afternoon Lunch and Learn: Township Services and Facilities
4 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Evening Deep Dive: Transportation and Mobility
7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. – Final Presentation

“Every 10 years, we are responsible for updating Cascade Township’s master plan, which defines and showcases the community’s vision for the Township moving forward,” said Steve Peterson, Cascade Township community development director. “Our goal is to obtain public insight and feedback on land use, growth strategies and, ultimately, the kinds of things the community wants to see in order to make Cascade better.

“We have accomplished a lot since the plan was last updated in 2009, and we are looking forward to learning what everyone wants to see happen over the next decade.”

During this day-long event, the Township is looking for insight from residents relating to:

  • Why they enjoy living in Cascade

  • How the Township has grown during the last decade, and where there are growth opportunities

  • What concerns they have regarding open spaces, development, septic systems, water quality, farmland, cost of housing, crime, invasive species, bike and pedestrian safety, transportation options and other matters

  • What concerns they have relating to traffic and mobility holistically within the Township or on main roads

  • Where they might want to see residential properties or retail developments

  • What type of housing or commercial and industrial developments should be encouraged by the Township

  • What priorities they think the Township should have and which should be most important

In addition to this event, residents and business owners are also encouraged to share their thoughts through an online survey, available here, as well as through an interactive map designed to allow users to select areas where they feel there are opportunities for growth, opportunities for improvement or areas that they enjoy within the Township.
