Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is a board of appointed Township residents that guides how Cascade Charter Township grows and develops. It is responsible for preparing and maintaining the Master Plan, which sets the Township’s long-term vision for land use, and for helping carry out that vision through the Zoning Ordinance. The Commission reviews development proposals, such as site plans and special use permit requests, to confirm they meet Township standards. It holds public meetings and hearings where residents and applicants can share input, and it makes decisions or recommendations to the Township Board, depending on the type of request.

Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is a board of appointed Township residents that hears requests for relief from the strict terms of the Zoning Ordinance. Its most common task is deciding variance requests, where a property owner asks for an exception to a standard such as a setback, building height, or lot coverage because of a practical difficulty unique to their property. The ZBA also hears appeals of administrative decisions, such as a zoning official’s interpretation of the ordinance. It holds public hearings so neighbors and applicants can share input, and it decides each case based on the standards in the ordinance. The ZBA does not change the zoning rules or rezone property; its role is to apply the ordinance fairly when unusual circumstances arise.

Meeting Schedule
Planning Commission meetings are held at 6:00pm on the first and third Monday of the month.
Zoning Board of Appeals meetings are held at 5:30pm on Tuesdays on a as needed basis.
Both meetings are held at the Cascade Library Wisner Center located at 2870 Jacksmith Ave SE.
