Burton St Bridge
Location: The bridge over the Thornapple River on Burton St
Estimated Completion: Mid-2026
Funding Source: $3.5 million appropriation of state funding
Construction of the pedestrian bridge over I-96 is expected to begin in late 2027. The project has received permit approval from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and is currently pending review by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Those reviews typically take four to six months. Following those approvals, the project is anticipated to go to bid in mid to later winter, with construction beginning in late fall 2027. Cascade Township received a $3.5 million state funding appropriation for the project, which has been extended to accommodate the updated timeline.
